Scapolo with big win

Back to News

On Sunday Scapolo defied the odds by winning the Poverty Bay Cup carrying the allocated 69kg which is almost certainly the highest weight allocated for a New Zealand flat race in recent years.

It is probably the biggest weight since Rough Habit carried 71.5kg when winning a graduation open 1200m at New Plymouth in August 2014.

Danielle Hirini claimed 3kg on Scapolo in the benchmark rating 85 1600m with a rating of 103.

The Kevin Myers trained 6yo gelding, Scapolo, has now won 15 races, had previously tackled the Group I Telegraph at Trentham and was runner-up in the Stewards’ Stakes at Riccarton with 60.5kg.
